All Forte Feature

When I first entered the medical device space, people warned me that it was a heavily male-dominated industry, but that didn’t really faze me. I had my own drivers for pursuing this career path and I wasn’t going to let anyone impact my perception of what it was like or prevent me from taking the leap.

The industry as a whole can be pretty challenging. As a female, the biggest thing I learned early on was the importance of being confident in myself. It’s essential to be comfortable owning the room. You have to be able to say who you are, what you represent, and be someone that people can rely on when you’re needed, otherwise everything else goes out the door.

But, honestly, I also consider my forte to be travel. I’m so intrigued by different cultures and how people live in other parts of the world. Working in corporate can be exhausting. Having the ability to see the world motivates me to continue to work hard. It strikes a good balance in your life when you’re excited about your job and you’re excited about your passions outside of your job. I’m working in the electrophysiology specialty so I’m helping to insert pacemakers and defibrillators, which is really exciting - and I’m also planning a trip to Italy this summer. I don’t feel like I need to escape one passion to fulfill the other.

I think it’s so important for women to find their forte and not settle for the status quo. I’ve learned that the only way you’ll truly feel fulfilled in your life is if you find something that you’re passionate about. I don’t think your forte has to be your career, it can even change throughout different phases of your life. As long as you have something that brings you genuine happiness, something that makes you work hard and makes you work towards being the best version of yourself, that’s something everyone should strive for.
