A few years ago, my Instagram was hacked and I used that as an opportunity to start fresh and pursue my passion. I started posting fashion and lifestyle content and soon after, a clothing brand reached out to collaborate. That brand deal got my foot in the door. I was graduating college and decided I wasn't going to take a job that didn't make me 100% happy. So, I had professional photos taken, created a portfolio, and began reaching out to other brands.

People say I could talk to a wall. So, the sales side of influencing has been pretty natural for me. The challenge is building a following - gaining and keeping target followers. That's where the business side comes in. People see a girl with a skin cream in her hand and think, 'Oh look, she's just selling skin cream.' But there's a lot that goes into it. I look at analytics, research hashtags, see what's trending, and then determine how I incorporate that into my content to get seen by the right people.

Authenticity is so important to me and something I think influencers should be accountable for. The Ava you see on social media is the Ava behind the scenes. One of my goals is to share my personality more. I want people to know that I'm not just a girl who’s taking videos and posting products. I actually have a super goofy side and I want to show that more, to connect and strengthen my relationships.

Someday I want to have my own brand. I want my name on something that I love and care about. I think the most important thing is to take baby steps. Walk and then run. Take time to figure out who you are and what interests you. Find yourself first.

I knew starting out that people would have something to say, they'd judge me. You have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. You can't let anyone hold you back - it's all in your control. One day I decided I was done caring about what people thought of me and it got me to where I am today. If someone has something to say about me now, well, I hope they do. And I hope they buy my product
