Make Getting Dressed Easier

That feeling when you have nothing to wear? We’ve been there, too. With these tried and true tips, we’ll help you make more of your closet so you never have to dread finding something to wear. Plus, what better time to refresh your wardrobe than the anticipation of spring?

  1. Invest in good basics.
Having a variety of high-quality short and long-sleeve t-shirts that fit you well, will serve as the foundation for a number of good outfits. The key is to invest in pieces that you can layer, accessorize, and dress up to make versatile outfits out of a simple staple. When it comes to the basics, we’re loving the Fits Everybody T-Shirt by SKIMS, and the Sherman Long Sleeve by The Row. Investing in durable basics will save you money in the long run; they’ll last and you’ll always want to be wearing them

  2. Have a go-to blazer.
If you don’t already have a quality blazer or two hanging in your closet, make this a priority. A good blazer can take any outfit from blah to fab instantly. Pair it with your favorite denim and sneakers for brunch, or pop it over a dress with pumps for a night out on the town. Blazers are also versatile officewear and can even be appropriate for cocktail parties if done right. If you’re refreshing your wardrobe or building it from scratch, invest in a basic that you can re-wear, like the Jane Blazer from Amanda Uprichard. If you’ve gotten the basics nailed down, we love a statement blazer that demands the attention of any room you walk in. Cinq e Sept’s Embellished Cheyenne Blazer is just the vibe we’d go for.

  3. Slip Dresses are back.
But, really, were they ever out? As the 90s trends are now part of the current day, we’re seeing slip dresses everywhere from LA to NYC. Pair one with your basic t-shirt or blazer, and you’re just about ready to go. Add a pop of color with a Generation Love dress,  or add a print with the Nina Maxi Dress by BEC + BRIDGE

  4. Dress for the occasion.
One of the easiest ways you can be confident in your outfit is to know the dress code. For instance, consider a jumpsuit for dressy casual, but never wear jeans to a cocktail event. When in doubt, we’d always rather be overdressed than underdressed.  The New York Times breaks down the Do’s and Don’ts of dress codes, here’s a sneak peek from the article:
    • Casual: Dressing up is not required. Sneakers, jeans, and T-shirts are all acceptable, and even encouraged.
    • Dressy casual: You should dress up, but only a little. It’s often just a matter of wearing nicer shoes, a snazzier top or pants that aren’t blue jeans (though denim is fine with the right kind of shirt).
    • Business attire: You should dress as someone might for a client-facing job. Of course, there is plenty of variation within this category. It might mean a suit, a knee-length skirt, or a blazer and khaki bottoms. But it definitely means no jeans and no sneakers.
    • Cocktail: You should dress much nicer than you do every day. Try separates in satin, silk or velvet. Suits. When in doubt, wear black.
    • Black tie: You should wear a very elegant dress – say, a long gown or a cocktail dress that’s on the fancier side – or a tuxedo.
    • White tie: You should look very fancy. Tailcoats, floor-length gowns and, potentially, white gloves are all on the table.
5. Don’t be afraid to stand out.
While there are certain guardrails to follow for appropriateness (see #4), we don’t love blending in with the crowd. The most important thing is that you feel confident in yourself. So, don’t be afraid to opt for a bold hue or some extra glam. We love an opportunity to make a statement…. You might even say that’s our forte.
